RMT industrial action
Statement fro RMT as of 15th June :
The RMT union has announced that they will be taking industrial action on:
- Tuesday 21 June 2022
- Thursday 23 June 2022
- Saturday 25 June 2022
With Network Rail signallers and more than 2,100 SWR RMT members taking industrial action, SWR will run a dramatically reduced timetable on strike days, with significant parts of the network closed.
A late-starting Sunday level of service will operate across the network on 22, 24 and 26 June, and customers are urged only to travel by rail if absolutely necessary between 21 and 26 June.
We are sorry for the disruption these strikes will cause and thank you for your patience and understanding as the rail industry works to bring this damaging nationwide action to an end.
What does this mean for my journey?
Strike days – Tuesday 21, Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 June
- A severely limited service will run between 07:15 and 18:30 on some routes, with the rest of the network closed
- Where trains are running, they are expected to be very busy
- As a result, you are urged not to travel by rail unless absolutely necessary
- You can find out where and when we will be running trains here
- Journey planners will be updated 2-4 days before the first strike day and you should check before you travel

We will be running some services at the start and end of each strike day which fall outside of this standard pattern, which will allow for the start-up and shutdown of the network on strike days.
The Island Line is not subject to strike action and will operate as usual.
Wednesday 22, Friday 24 and Sunday 26 June
Due to the shift patterns of signal workers and the significant challenges getting trains and people in the right place to operate between strike days:
- No trains will run before 07:30
- A late-starting Sunday level of service will run across the network for the rest of the day
- Services are likely to be busier than usual
- Customers are urged to check their journey before they travel
- Journey planners will be updated 2-4 days before the first strike day and you should check before you travel
- Timetables are still being finalised, but please consult our regular Sunday services here
Ticket acceptance, refunds and compensation
- If you have already purchased daily tickets for 21-26 June, and you decide not to travel because the service you originally intended to travel on is no longer running or has been retimed, you will be able to claim a fee-free refund, or use the same ticket to travel between 20-28 June
- Monthly and longer season ticket holders who were unable to travel or followed advice and chose not to travel on 21, 23 or 25 June can claim compensation through our Delay Repay scheme. Please make one claim for each day affected and select a delay of 120+ minutes to claim back the value of one day’s travel
- As this is a national strike affecting nearly all train companies, we do not expect tickets to be accepted on other operators
- Your ticket will be valid on alternative SWR routes at no extra cost, but services that are running will be extremely busy and customers are urged only to travel if absolutely necessary
