Brendan James
Brendan James is a lifelong enthusiast of kicks and synths and will listen to almost anything derived from House, Trance, Dance, Rave or Techno. He caught the Electronica bug as a teenager, in the late-90s heyday of the likes of Fatboy Slim, Faithless, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers et al. As a young man, Brendan harboured dreams of becoming a Superstar DJ like his idols Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold and Tiesto whilst regularly spinning his vinyls at free parties in rural Somerset. Underground DJs Hixxy, Scott Brown, Mark EG, and Scot Project led him to harder pastures for several years, before he mellowed and got back into Trance, Progressive, Deep House and Melodic Techno as fatherhood and middle-age beckoned. These days, favoured artists include Sasha, Henry Saiz, Quivver and Gai Barone to name but a few.
Brendan James presents Electric R&R, a Saturday evening show, focused on feel-good electronic music and positivity. The soundtrack is varied in pace but always melodic, uplifting and buzzing with otherworldly emotion. From Air to Barry Can’t Swim, or from Carl Cox to Maribou State, Electric R&R provides a space for lovers of electronic beats to let their hair down, release the pent up energy from the week gone by and reflect upon what lies ahead with a refreshed optimism. There are no boundaries to what music is played, other than a clear directive to let the synthesiser reign supreme for two hours every weekend. Audience participation is encouraged and input from local DJs and electronic music producers welcomed. Do yourself a favour – tune in to Castledown FM and turn it up!!
