John Sparrow

I joined Castledown FM way back in 2006 before the FM launch, when we were on "internet only" for a year, "broadcasting" from the port-a-cabin behind The Wellington Academy sports centre.

Prior to that, I had been along to the station, to see Phil Harding from Time Team cut the ribbon and launch the internet service. When we did launch on FM, I was floor manager looking after the live acts in the sports hall.

I joined up to be a presenter to help me with my memory, amongst other reasons. I was Group Scout Leader at 1st Tidworth before I joined, but couldn't do both "volunteer" jobs at once. Trained by Baz Reilly, I was soon let loose onto the radio, my longest running show was five years doing 3 hours every Saturday morning, that was fun!

After many years on air I started to look after the outside broadcast events, I joined the Board of Directors. and was eventually elected as Chairman. Not satisfied with two job's I also help with the engineering side, since my day job involves electronics/audio and software. All very useful!

Moving the studios in two weeks was a bit of a challenge. Since then I have become a jack of all trades at the station. More recently we moved out of The Wellington Academy studios due to the space being needed for special-needs young people, we were lucky enough to find a new home in Ludgershall.

I currently present The Early Evening show on Fridays 5-7pm and the 00's Time warp on Mondays. I often pop up on other shows, including co-presenting once a month with Kev Lawrence on Mondays.

It's never a dull moment at Castledown FM, your local Radio Station!
